As time has passed there have been a great transformations in all sorts of things, the case of jewellery is no different from the rest. What was thought impossible earlier became possible later. Earlier craftsmanship made a lot of difference later mechanisation and improvement in processing produced wonderful results.

When you go through the history you find out that man has been doing a lot to keep himself different from his colleagues and neighbours. To achieve this end he has been discovering a lot of unique things and processes. All this has contributed to accelerate the changes. The changes have been gradual in most of the cases. But, at times they have paved the way of gigantic leaps too.

The people earlier used to live in groups and communities. Besides, what was common in the group or communities and was known as its common culture, man strived to find ways to be different. Among the ways to earn recognition of his own identity, he found jewellery an option that could be exercised. To posses something unique was possible by having ornaments totally different from others. In this way jewellery became a thing to quench the thirst of the humans for staying different. This led to lots of diversification and development of jewellery.

In current modern era too the challenge to be different and look different is much the same as it was earlier. One feels like just an extension to the feelings of past age communities. Of course, one can not leave what is common in the current age society and what can be termed as its basic tenets, much like as it was earlier and was known as its common culture. The challenge is to find personal identity and recognition.

The problem of finding one’s own identity can be divided in two categories. The first of these two categories is very common but it is transient. It is known as generation gap. In teen years everyone faces it. In course of time, gets over it. But the second category is a larger one. It concerns one’s own self and society at large.

The crisis of identity demands that you must be recognised as your own self and enough space be given to you. Ever since the process of urbanisation has degenerated into dehumanisation,, this problem has got rather acute and manifested itself in various forms during the last few decades.

Today, as in earlier times, jewellery provides you an outlet to assert yourself and have something unique. When you talk about jewellery, different sorts of pictures come to your mind, earrings, nose pins, are quite common and widely used with the discrimination of gender. Rather, it’s quite interesting to know that these specific jewelleries are most admired by the male community.

Another transformation in this is the way to use these jewelleries, as today, you will find youngsters wearing earrings in different places, for instance it is widely used on eye brows and also belly ring is fast becoming a fashion in young girls. One can truly call this a way to keep your self unique.
